Code is read 10x more than it is written. Clean code reduces bugs, speeds up onboarding and makes maintenance enjoyable. In startups, clean code is the difference between shipping features in days versus weeks.
Always use TypeScript. It catches bugs at compile time, provides autocompletion and serves as living documentation. Avoid any — use explicit types, interfaces and generics.
Each component should do one thing. Compose small components rather than building monolithic ones with dozens of props. In Next.js, default to server components — only add "use client" when you need interactivity.
Use React Query or SWR for server state. useState for local UI state. Zustand or Context for global state. Avoid Redux unless you have a specific reason.
Always handle errors explicitly. Use try/catch for async operations. Log errors with context. Never swallow errors silently.
Use Next.js Image component. Lazy load below-the-fold content. Minimize client-side JavaScript. Profile before optimizing — do not prematurely memoize.
Atomic commits with descriptive messages. Feature branches with PR reviews. Squash merge to keep main branch clean.
Clean code is a habit. Write for humans first, machines second. Your future self will thank you.
